Lorenzo Dan Barnes Clara (View posts) Posted: 13 May 2005 3:50PM GMT Classification: Obituary Surnames: Barnes Lorenzo Dan Darnes was born in Holmes County Ohio, Oct. 11,1887 and died Feb. 17,1923 at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Otis Cady, Cody, NE. He was married in 1856 to Eliza Jane Hall at Union Iowa. To this union fourteen children were born. In 1862 he filed on a homestead where the city of Norfolk now stands, later he moved to Cherry County where he established the first store in Cody, before the railroad was built freighting his merchandise from Valentine. On Dec. 22,1863 he joined Co.E, 7th Regiment Illinois Veteran Infantry and was honorably dischared July 9,1865 at Louisville, Kentucky. In 1889 he was married to Hannah Gartside Miller at Rushville, Ne. To this union ten children were born. He was universally known and loved as "White Barnes". In 1892 he donated the lot to the Episcopal Church and last year St. Johns Church was completed.
